COLLECTION
Meteorite Name: Claxton
Location: Georgia
Classification: L6 Chondrite
Witnessed Fall: Yes
Date and Time: December 10, 1984
TKW: 1455 grams
Remarks:
The only meteorite known to have crushed a mailbox, crashing through one end at the top upon impact and directly blasting the back plate off en route to terra firma. The October 28, 2007, Bonhams auction -- the first ever by a major international auction house which was solely dedicated to meteorites -- probably sealed the fate of this fall as the most famous in Georgia's history.
